About Us

My name is Anne, my husband is Peter and we have two sons aged 6 & 4, Adam and Stephen. We got our first dog in 1990, a Boxer we named Elmo. He turned out to be a Boxer cross as his nose just grew and grew. He had all of the Boxer traits and was a special part of our family. After 2 years we got another Boxer called Ella. She was Boxer through and through. She had to see an animal behaviorist, Kersti Seksel, who helped us immensely with her "Separation Anxiety" issues.

When Elmo was 5 he got a Marcel tumour on his back leg. The lump was removed and he had radiation therapy and was given the all clear. Then Ella got a Marcel and she had chemotherapy which made her incontinent and fat. She too was given the all clear. But every year they had another tumour off each of them. Ella also suffered with pancreatitis. Terrible tummy aches where she couldn't eat for days. She also had hives which made her look a bit moth-eaten when it flared up. They also had dirty teeth which had to cleaned each year.

When Elmo was eight years old we swapped vets and as we were living in Bathurst we started seeing Dr. Ian Billinghurst. His first recommendation with regard to all of their problems was change their diet to a BARF diet. We decided that we had nothing to lose and we'd give it a go. Every weekend Peter would grind up enough food to last them the week and slowly it dawned on us that Ella hadn't had pancreatitis. She had also stopped passing the most awful smelling wind! They were pooing less (hooray). Ella no longer had hives. They were much healthier, happier dogs. Sadly when Elmo was 13 years old and Ella 11 we had to have them both put to sleep due to old age. From the day we changed their diet they had not had one more tumour. Nor had they had their teeth cleaned again as the bones in the diet had done it for them.

A month later we got another dog. A Dogue De Bordeaux (a hooch) called Rosie. This time we decided that it'd be easier to feed her Dr Billinghursts frozen patties and she's doing wonderfully. When we were transferred to Melbourne in March we couldn't get the diet here so I bought 6 months worth, Amazingly Victorians were ringing Dr Billinghurst wanting to try the diet for their dogs, so he gave them my number and most of my food was sold before Rosie had a wiff. I ordered another 10 boxes and soon enough they also sold out. So due to the large demand I have now set up BARF Sales Victoria. I would never feed Rosie anything else now, just the frozen patties and chicken necks. And she's thriving on it.
